Since before humans had written words to record what we were doing, we have been using plants to help us feel better. We have made painkillers out of willow bark (precursor to contemporary mass-produced aspirin). We have eaten garlic to cure yeast infections and get rid of parasites. Women have made tea from raspberry leaves to help relieve menstrual cramps. Herbalism is folk medicine, used by countless grandmothers to relieve their families' tummy aches, sooth ear infections, bring down fevers and help the little ones sleep at night.
Green Thumbs Massage is about honoring nature and helping people feel better by connecting with these amazing plants. Clients may choose to enhance the massage experience with aromatic and otherwise helpful herbs.
- Herbal teas, primarily gentle nervines like oatstraw and lemon balm, which people tend to find comforting and grounding. Relaxing mentally and emotionally can help the body relax physically as well.
- Massage oils infused with therapeutic herbs like arnica, which has a reputation for relieving pain and helping the muscles respond more quickly to bodywork.
- Essential oils, which are highly concentrated forms of medicinal plants that can be used for their emotional/aromatherapeutic benefits as well as their physical qualities. Laboratory scientists are now confirming the anti-viral, anti-fungal, circulation-enhancing properties of essential oils made from favorite plants such as lemon, lavender and rosemary.
- Flower essences, which work on a subtle, energetic level that no scientist can quite explain (although quantum physicists are getting close). People find that they can use just a couple of drops, just a homeopathic dose, to make them feel better emotionally. A specially chosen flower essence can be part of each client's personalized massage oil blend.
